How to Hire a Gutter Installer in Colorado Springs

Call (719) 628-1885

Choosing who hangs your gutters is mostly about clear paperwork and honest answers. We are a referral service and do not recommend or rate specific companies, so this checklist is meant to help you evaluate anyone, including whoever we connect you with.

Get it in writing

Ask for a written estimate and a contract. It should state:

  • Scope of work and the materials (type, thickness or gauge, width, color)
  • Total linear feet and number of downspouts
  • Approximate start and finish dates
  • Total cost and payment schedule
  • The contractor’s name, address, phone, and email
  • Warranty terms for materials and labor
  • Whether old gutters are removed and hauled away

For covered roofing work, Colorado’s Roofing Contractor Act requires a signed written contract with elements like these, plus a 72-hour right to cancel and a statement that the contractor cannot pay or waive your insurance deductible. Whether gutter-only work is covered is not clear to us, but a contractor who offers these protections anyway is a good sign.

Verify the basics

  • Insurance. Ask for a certificate of insurance showing general liability and workers’ compensation. Third-party sources describe these as typical for Colorado licensing, though we could not confirm the exact legal requirement for gutters. Call the insurer to check that coverage is current.
  • Registration. Ask what license or registration the installer holds and verify it with the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department (719-327-2880). Colorado has no statewide roofing license, and we could not confirm what PPRBD requires for gutter-only work.
  • Permit. Ask whether one is needed and who pulls it. See permits and licensing.
  • HOA. Confirm approval before ordering.

Deposits

Be wary of large upfront payments. Colorado law for covered roofing work requires deposits to be held in trust until materials are delivered or most of the work is done. Even where it may not apply, it is a sensible standard.

After a hailstorm

Storm seasons bring door-knockers and out-of-area crews. Slow down and do not sign anything on the spot. Avoid anyone who offers to cover or waive your deductible, because Colorado law prohibits roofing contractors from doing so. Read how hail insurance claims work first.

Compare bids fairly

Get at least three written estimates if you can. Compare the specifications first and the total second, using our cost guide as context.

Questions to ask

  1. Is the quote itemized by material, thickness, and width?
  2. Where will the downspouts discharge? See drainage.
  3. How does your product handle pine needles and snow, if relevant to my yard?
  4. What does the warranty cover and who honors it?

Frequently asked questions

What should be in a written gutter estimate?

Material, thickness or gauge, width, color, linear feet, number of downspouts, guards, removal of old gutters, start and finish dates, total cost, contact information, and warranty terms.

Should I pay a big deposit upfront?

Be careful. For covered roofing work, Colorado law requires deposits be held in trust until materials are delivered or most of the work is done. Whether that covers gutter-only work is unclear, but it is a good benchmark for what is reasonable.

What are red flags after a hailstorm?

Door-to-door pressure, offers to cover or waive your deductible, requests for large payments before work starts, and refusal to put terms in writing.

How long does installation take?

We did not find a reliable figure. Ask each installer for a start and finish date in writing, and how weather delays are handled.
